Surf lifesaver Charlie Rigby (14) will participate in the beach sprint and flag events at the Manly and Freshwater Australia Day Carnival.

Selected for the Western Suns development team, Charlie is travelling with his peers, including Kara Elliot (Mullaloo Surf Life Saving Club) and Macarah Mallis (Sorrento SLSC), to New South Wales for the January 25 and 26 carnivals.

He joined Quinns Mindarie SLSC when he was just six years old and in the past four state championships, the Quinns Baptist College student has won medals.

He is a patrol member for the club and when he is not watching over swimmers, he is training for his next big event.
