Robbins run ambassador

Anne Gartner, Joondalup TimesCommunity News

Robbins will take part in the Run for a Reason as a Lifeline ambassador on May 25 to highlight the growing number of children exposed to or experiencing mental health problems.

The 2010 NBL championship basketballer has a strong awareness of the issue, given his involvement with youth diversion program Streetball, which offers sport and life skills workshops each weekend to at-risk children.

‘Most of the kids, in one way, shape or form, certainly have or are exposed to mental health issues,’ he said.

‘There is a big correlation between what we do, particularly the life skills, and Lifeline.’

Robbins hoped taking part would further highlight mental health issues in the community and the support agencies available for people needing help.

‘A lot of the people who suffer mental illnesses try to do it alone and may not feel others understand or that there is any avenue they can take,’ he said.

‘The main thing is make people aware that there is help out there and people don’t have to do it alone,’ he said.
