STIRLING Lions put on a spirited performance to claim a convincing 3-0 win over league-leaders Bayswater City at Frank Drago Reserve on Saturday.

A penalty converted by David Micevski in the first half was backed up in the second by a spectacular Miki Vujacic corner and a bizarre own goal in stoppage time.

Stirling coach Rob Milevski said the result was testimony to a great team performance, and praised his younger players who had been brought in due to a number of injuries and suspensions.

“It was a brilliant team performance, we stuck to the game plan and I think we frustrated them at times,” he said.

“We had a couple of young lads in there, 17-year-old Lukas Da Lima came in on the right side and I thought he worked hard and combined well.”

ECU Joondalup resurgence continued and made it three wins on the bounce after a 1-0 win against Armadale at Alfred Skeet Reserve.

Gordon Smith scored the only goal of the game with a stunning header midway through the second half, but all the thoughts of the ECU Joondalup players were with Scottish midfielder Steven McGarry, whose father passed away last week.

Inglewood United are back in form and have climbed to within two points of ladder-leaders Bayswater City after a tough win against Balcatta.

Floreat Athena continued their flying form with a 3-0 win over Sorrento at Percy Doyle Reserve.

Perth SC’s Gustavo Catarcione inspired a come from behind 2-1 win against Subiaco at Rosalie Park, while Cockburn City and Perth Glory shared the spoils after two late goals made it 1-1 at Dalmatinac Park.
