According to the City of Perth’s Favourite Coffee Competition, the best ‘cup of joe’ is found in the heart of Forrest Place at Bocelli Espresso.

The establishment won the competition, run as a part of Eat Drink Perth, for the third year in a row, beating Caffisimo in West Perth and Lowdown Espresso in Cloisters Arcade.

Bocelli owner Leone Agnello said making coffee was a part of his family traditions.

‘My parents migrated here from Sicily and a lot of Italians come to us for our traditional espressos made with our custom blend that has hints of hazelnuts and chocolate,’ he said.

‘I’ve trained all the family members who work here so customers know the standard to expect.’

Lord Mayor Lisa Scaffidi said the competition highlighted the choices.

‘Bocelli has really taken advantage of its central city location,’ she said.

‘But there is a lot more to being Perth’s favourite than convenience.

‘Coffee drinkers are discerning and Perth is spoilt for choice. The City of Perth has a growing number of cafes roasting their own beans, offering exclusive blends, small batch and single origin coffees and different brewing methods like cold drip.

‘The idea that a cup of coffee is just a cup of coffee is no longer the case.’
