CITY of Vincent mayor John Carey has taken inspiration from President of the United States of America Barack Obama for his State Election campaign fundraising.

Mr Carey is the Labor candidate for the Perth seat in the March 2017 State election and has raised more than $13,000 to date on his MyCause fundraiser page.

The page indicates he has raised 62 per cent of his $21,000 goal from 105 donations since launching it in November.

Mr Carey said the figure was in addition to money raised at several events he has held including a Halloween party and quiz nights.

“I copied what was done overseas; Obama and Bernie Sanders were successful in getting small donations from supporters,” he said.

The Perth seat is currently held by Liberal’s Eleni Evangel MLA.
