CALLING all geeks at heart, the biggest over 18s cosplay, gaming and pop culture event to enter Perth will kick off next month.
On Saturday May 12, PRESS PLAY will host Australia’s Championship of Cosplay at Badlands Bar in Northbridge.
Fans will have the opportunity to show off their costumes, test their knowledge in a pop trivia quiz and challenge friends to a variety of tabletop and video games, including childhood favourites Mario Kart and Monopoly.
Australia is the first stop in the ‘Quest for the Crown’ for the Oz Comic-Con Australian Championships of Cosplay, which will showcase the most prestigious cosplay costumes in a worldwide competition.
Perth celebrity cosplayers and partners in crime Giorgia Costumes and Kirilee Cosplay (also known as Team Rufflebutt) will host the event.
Giorgia said the event was a first for Perth and promised to have a more ‘mature feel’ being held at an over 18 years venue.
“Not only will it be an evening full of games, competitions, trivia and other special goodies, but the Oz Comic-Con Championships of Cosplay will also hold its Perth heat, where the best cosplayers from Perth will compete to represent WA in the finals interstate,” she said.
“The winner of the finals will represent Australia in the finals at C2E2, the Chicago Comic and Entertainment Expo in the United States.”
Kirilee said the event would be a good night with like-minded people.
“It will be a geek-out over all the good things in life from Dragonball, to Game of Thrones, to Witcher,” she said.
For those willing to take a crack at the country’s most coveted cosplay title, Perth applications are now open at https://docs.google.com/
Tickets for the event cost $18 (plus $3.65 online booking fee per ticket or plus $4.65 for phone booking fee per ticket) and are now available online at http://ozcomiccon.com/press-play/
