Lauren PilatEastern Reporter

A police spokesman said between 11pm and 1am, a 44-year-old East Perth man was with friends on Burswood Road when he decided to take a walk along Egham Road.

He said an unknown man approached the victim and allegedly attacked him with a knife, resulting in an extensive laceration to his neck.

The victim managed to run away towards Burswood Road before flagging down a taxi that took him to Royal Perth Hospital.

The man's injuries required surgery and 36 staples to close the wound.
