Louie said she had always loved writing and got the job of co-editor of the Corrigin newspaper by volunteering.

"I always enjoyed science fiction," she said.

"I was a long time contributor to the Narrogin Observer, Merredin Mercury and West Australian Women Writers Association."

City of Vincent Mayor John Carey said he hoped when he was Louie's age he was able publish a book.

"It was really lovely and touching to see," Mr Carey said.

"I would hope that at that age, I would be that much of a go-getter."
