O’Donohue has spent time with local youth at the Mission Australia Youth Accommodation Support Service (YASS) over the past week passing on his skills while helping them complete a wall mural.

He has also hosted workshops at the centre where groups of young people created four large canvasses that will be displayed at Mission Australia’s new Youth Beat home in Northbridge.

‘The kids have really come alive and enjoyed getting creative with the wall mural,’ O’Donohue said.

‘It’s been a rewarding experience seeing each person incorporate their idea of what YASS means to them during the design phase.’

Mission Australia Youth Beat and YASS Program Manager Ciara Crotty said O’Donohue was brought on board to help with the workshops because graffiti art is popular form of art among YASS and Youth Beat clients.

‘Our YASS and Youthbeat clients have a lot of respect for Luke and it’s fantastic to see them so enthusiastic about working on graffiti art projects with him,’ Ms Crotty said.

‘Through the art programs we want to educate youth on appropriate forms of graffiti art and show them how much value it holds in the art world.’

YASS is an accommodation service for youth in need, and Youth Beat is a centre that connects vulnerable young people with appropriate support services before they end up on the city’s streets after dark.
