Australian of the Year David Morrison to do UWA oration honours

AUSTRALIAN of the Year 2016 David Morrison will present this year’s Wallace Kyle Oration at UWA next Tuesday.

The former Lieutenant General and retired Chief of the Australian Army will discuss ‘A man’s journey to better understanding the challenges facing Australia in the 21st century’ at the free public lecture hosted by the McCusker Centre for Citizenship, Institute of Advanced Studies at UWA and the Rotary Club of Perth.

The Wallace Kyle Oration was established in 1980 to mark the life and works of the late Sir Wallace Kyle who was WA Governor from 1975-1980.

Rotary Club of Perth president Graham Peden said the club felt passionately about issues Mr Morrison was outspoken on, such as domestic violence.

“The club launched its Path of Hope initiative with the WA Salvation Army two years ago in a bid to halt the appalling spread of domestic violence and we very much support David’s views that this issue needs continued attention from all Australians,” Mr Peden said.
