Beaufort Street Festival cancelled

Sophie GabrielleEastern Reporter

BEAUFORT Street Festival organisers have cancelled the popular event.

The Beaufort Street Network announced today that the festival would not be held this year and instead a range of smaller community events would take its place.

Network chairwoman Pam Herron said the festival took a year’s worth of work for a one-day event.

“We love the festival,” Ms Herron said.

“I don’t think everyone appreciated how much time and effort went into it throughout the year.

“It’s time to try some new ideas.”

The first festival was held in 2010.

“Funding the festival each year is challenging, particularly for a non-profit community organisation in the current economic conditions,” Ms Herron said.

“The network may relaunch a smaller community celebration in future years.”
