Bikes stolen from CBD carpark found in Yanchep home, two men charged

Jon BassettEastern Reporter

BICYCLES found in a Yanchep home were allegedly stolen from an underground carpark used by some of WA’s top lawyers and staff of Government offices.

Sergeant John Vissiliou said it would be alleged two bikes from the carpark were among six seized by his officers in a raid at a Bunker Crescent house in the far-north suburb on February 19.

About noon on February 2, five bicycles worth about $20,000 in total were taken from the David Malcolm Justice Centre on Barrack Street in Perth.

The centre houses WA Supreme Court chambers, offices for the State Government attorney-general and treasurer, and a civil court, but police did not know if any of the bikes were those of the lawyers, judges or the politicians’ staff.

A Yanchep man (19) was charged with two counts of stealing and possessing unlawfully obtained property, and a Yanchep man (20) was charged with three counts of stealing.

Both will appear in Perth Magistrates Court at a later date.
