Blood needed over Easter

Emily BakerEastern Reporter

The trainee pastor at a Bullsbrook church will donate blood at the Perth Blood Donor Centre during the Easter long weekend to help boost vital blood supplies for cancer patients.

The centre is one of WA's most poorly-booked locations this Easter and Mr Dodd urged others to donate.

"Giving blood is essentially giving life," he said.

I would encourage everybody to celebrate Jesus on Easter and give life.

"For those not onboard with religion it's also just a good time to help someone else, as people usually get time off from their busy schedules."

Perth Blood Donor Centre spokeswoman Jessica Willet said donations were essential between April 2 and 9 to ensure hospitals had enough stock of the shortest-lived blood product, platelets.

"Platelets only last five days and are vital to the treatment of cancer patients, who continue to be the biggest users of blood and blood products in Australia," she said.

"In particular, Perth donors are needed on Easter Sunday and Monday, when appointments are less than 10 per cent full."

Ms Willet said finding blood donors around Easter was always a challenge for the Blood Service but the reward was priceless.

"The need for blood never stops and every blood donation helps save three lives," she said.
