Julian WrightEastern Reporter

THE Blood Service is making a desperate call for 260 plasma donations before the end of the month.

Perth CBD residents and workers are urged to step up and give plasma.

Blood Service community relations officer Dave Favory said the demand for plasma increased by 11 per cent each year.

He said the additional donations would help thousands of Australians to lead an improved quality of life.

“Plasma and its many treatments are used to treat shock and burns, fight infectious diseases, prevent blood clots, and stop critical bleeding – often in emergency situations,” he said.

Regular donator Andy Hamer just clocked up his 75th donation since starting 20 years ago.

He said his two children were too young to donate but he hoped to lead by example.

“They have come along with me on appointment to donate so when they are old enough I hope they do it also,” he said.
