Bus lanes flow for peak

Council had previously opposed the construction of bus lanes amid concerns that the lanes would eventually operate 24 hours and the street would become a thoroughfare.

The Public Transport Authority (PTA) plan features bus lanes on the south side of the street from Clarence Street to Newcastle Street and on the north side of the road from Newcastle Street to Walcott street during peak hours.

This will complete the bus lane corridor from Perth to Inglewood.

Mayor John Carey said at last week’s council meeting he was still concerned that the bus lanes would increase traffic speeds along the road, but wanted to a support an initiative that encouraged public transport use.
