MORE than 100,000 twinkling Christmas lights and decorations were lit up in Perth last week.

The traditional turning on of the Christmas Lights marks the start of WA’s largest Christmas festival.

City of Perth Lord Mayor Lisa Scaffidi, who was joined by Santa and his North Pole crew to launch the event, said no other place in WA embraced the festive season quite like Perth.

‘The Festival of Christmas brings a friendly air of magic, cheer and fun into the city,’ she said.

‘It’s a time for giving and for enjoying the company of loved ones.

‘The Perth City Festival of Christmas is our gift to the people of Perth, so why not have a colourful Christmas with us in the city.

‘With everything from Santa spotting to unique Christmas markets, Perth City is the only place you will find such a wide range of free family events and shopping options.’

The festival will feature more than 20 free events and Perth’s tallest Christmas tree, with many new stores opening in the city. For more information, visit www.visitperthcity.com
