City of Perth considering basketball court for Wellington Square Masterplan

CITY of Perth officers have made several changes to the Draft Wellington Square Masterplan following the completion of public consultation but a basketball court remains a central feature.

Public toilets will now be adjacent to the kiosk to enhance safety and there will an extensive CCTV and lighting network, a space for reflection and healing near the Sorry pole and more than 350 new trees planted.

There were 159 responses to the draft masterplan during consultation with comments focused on the toilets, waterbody, playground, cultural heritage, lighting and retention of existing trees.

Other features of the draft plan include event and social spaces, pedestrian priority along Wittenoom Street and more canopy cover.

The draft plan would cost nearly $19 million and be completed over three stages.

Stage one works are expected to start next year.

Commissioners will consider the draft plan at a council meeting next Tuesday.
