City of Perth council meeting ‘just a normal agenda’ says Deputy Lord Mayor

Giovanni TorreEastern Reporter

PERTH Deputy Lord Mayor James Limnios hopes tonight’s City of Perth council meeting will run smoothly after he openly defied the City’s media ban this week.

“What we have in tonight’s meeting is just a normal agenda. I hope we will continue to go about our business,” he said.

Cr Limnios said he wants to see a “clarification” of the City’s media policy.

“We should allow elected members to communicate via the media, if appropriate, their personal views and ideas,” he said.

“I think it is imperative that the voters have an understand of who they are dealing with, and the only way they can do that is if members can express their ideas.”

The last time Cr Limnios spoke to the media – to express his concerns about the undeclared gifts scandal engulfing Lord Mayor Lisa Scaffidi – allies of the Lord Mayor moved a motion of no confidence in the Deputy Lord Mayor.

Cr Limnios said he did not expect to be “blindsided” again.

“I hope not, but I don’t know; people are unpredictable,” he said.

“I hope we get through our agenda professionally and properly.”
