City of Perth councillor to push for audio recordings of committee meetings

CITY of Perth committee meetings will be recorded and the audio made available online if the council approves a motion from councillor Jemma Green at its next meeting.

While the recordings of full council meetings have been made available online since May last year, the City’s committees do not receive the same treatment.

The minutes of committee meetings are published online, containing little more than the outcome of votes, and no record of debates.

The City’s committees, including Finance and Administration, Planning, Works and Urban Development, Design Advisory, and Marketing, Sponsorship and International Engagement are open to the public and often host important and detailed debate while deciding on recommendations to full council.

Cr Green announced via her Facebook page she would move the motion on 11 April so that “anyone can participate in our democracy without having to make the meeting in person”.
