Bicycle boulevards are a low-speed street where cyclists are given priority and aims to encourage more people to cycle.

Shakespeare Street was chosen because it is a direct, relatively flat route with low traffic volumes that also connects to the Scarborough Beach Road separated bike lanes recently installed by the council.

The project is expected to begin this month once the final designs have been signed off by Department of Transport and Main Roads WA.

There is the potential in the future to connect to the Leederville town centre, Aranmore Catholic College, Leederville Oval , North Metropolitan TAFE Leederville campus, City of Vincent Library and the Loftus Recreation Centre.

The project is funded through the State Government’s Safe Active Streets Program with construction being delivered by the City of Vincent.
