City of Vincent Mayor says McDonald’s ‘much to blame’ for Weld Square rubbish issue

Julian WrightEastern Reporter

CITY of Vincent Mayor John Carey has taken aim at fast food giant McDonald’s, saying it is much to blame for rubbish in and around Weld Square.

Mr Carey made his comments last night while discussing the extension by 12 months of Manna Inc’s services of feeding the homeless at the Perth park.

Residents and business owners resisted the extension, claiming it drew anti-social behaviour and trash was left behind.

Mr Carey said he had visited the area late at night to witness the pollution for himself.

“I’ve been to that McDonald’s and it is a war zone, inside and out,” he said.

“There is no doubt that it is a contributor and McDonald’s has got to do a better job of picking up the rubbish.”

Councillor Joshua Topelberg said he also believed McDonald’s was a contributor to the rubbish in the and around Weld Square.

“There is no question,” he said.

McDonald’s has been contacted for comment.
