FURBABIES are now permitted in the City of Vincent administration building.
Council recently voted on a handful of changes in the Dogs Amendment Local Law 2017, including the deletion of one section, which prohibited dogs from entering public building or business premises.
Dogs remain prohibited from Beatty Park Leisure Centre and children’s playgrounds.
Vincent Mayor Emma Cole said the changes reflected growing dog ownership numbers in the municipality.
“We have people come down to pay their rates, seek information or a few to hire a hall and we can hear their dogs downstairs,” she said.
“They are now allowed inside the foyer.”
Ms Cole said the line was drawn at the council chambers.
“The chambers are a different set of circumstances,” she said.
She said it was now up to private business owners discretion to allow dogs inside.
“Food standards still prohibit dogs inside cafes and restaurants, except for alfresco area,” she said.
“But you cannot carry your dog through a caf to get to an outdoor courtyard.”
