Buskers rejoice! The City of Vincent has scrapped the permit fee

BUSKERS performing in the City of Vincent will no longer have to pay a permit fee.

While discussing the 2017/18 budget on July 25, councillor Jimmy Murphy moved a motion to scrap the busking fee, which was a maximum $108 for an annual permit. His motion was passed.

Cr Murphy said the City made “very little” from it.

“Abolishing the fee may encourage more buskers,” he said.

The process to register remains unchanged. A City officer confirmed it had not received any busking applications in the last 12 months.

Mayor Emma Cole said she hoped to see more buskers immediately.

“It would be up to us to promote it, but I could see the possibility of more buskers in the winter months and certainly in the warmer months,” she said.

The move comes three years after the City relaxed it busking laws and created street entertainer zones to reinvigorate restaurant and retail strips.
