City of Vincent to spend $20,000 on wheelie bin trial

CITY of Vincent will spend about $20,000 on a new wheelie bin trial to begin in November that aims to reduce waste.

Mayor John Carey announced the trial last week that would allow residents to trade their 240l waste wheelie bin for a smaller 140l bin and a bigger recycle bin with a 360l capacity.

He said the City was against the “flawed” three-bin system.

“Our waste system is antiquated and we have had to hold off on doing anything because of amalgamations,” he said.

“There was no point doing anything when we thought we were amalgamating with the City of Perth.

“We did not want to use the three-bin system because of the high density; also the mulch made from the green waste is not a high value.”

Mr Carey said a weekly bin service had been suggested.

“That would double the cost for ratepayers,” he said.
