Concern at single-bedroom units

Staff ReporterEastern Reporter

The block on Forrest Avenue in East Perth will include a 10- level tower fronting Forrest Avenue containing 51 apartments and a seven-level residential tower of 13 apartments fronting Wellington Street.

Perth council approved the development and an application for the transfer of the plot ratio from 47 Wellington Street, East Perth to 57 Forrest Avenue, East Perth at its meeting on Tuesday.

Councillor Judy McEvoy said she was concerned with the number of single-bedroom units and parking options.

‘I do have a problem with a 64 single-bedroom building,’ Cr McEvoy said. ‘I don’t know if it is sort of like being in Italy. We’ll have all these scooters.’

Any contract of sale or lease for the residential units will have to include a prominent notice advising prospective purchasers or occupants that they will not be eligible for a resident on-street parking permit.

One objection to the proposal was received from an apartment owner at 60 Forrest Avenue, opposed to the development, based on the number of car-parking bays and the limited parking bays available on Forrest Avenue.

Councillor Jim Adamos said the City was lacking one-bedroom unit blocks.

‘There are people that do want to shift into the city,’ he said.

‘I think it’s a great initiative. I’m happy to support it.’
