Council sees light at end of tunnel for public transport push

Council agreed at last week’s meeting to seek public comment about proposed public transport plans including its suggestions for a third bus terminal and putting light rail on St Georges Terrace.

Cr Judy McEvoy said it was important for council to continue lobbying the State Government to ensure light rail was planned effectively for the city.

‘If we put light rail down St Georges Terrace then we can replace those hundreds of buses that come down the terrace,’ she said.

‘I think this goes a long way to getting our concerns through to the public and stakeholders.’

The public and stakeholders will be able to comment on transport plans via the City of Perth website.

The State Government is also hosting four community information sessions about light rail in the coming weeks:

– Saturday, July 27, 10am- 2pm, Centro Dianella shopping centre

– Wednesday, July 31, 10am- 2pm, at ECU Mt Lawley

– Saturday, August 3, 10am-2pm, at North Perth Plaza shopping centre

– Saturday, August 10, 10am-2pm, at Mirrabooka Square shopping centre
