Couple prepare for Rottnest swim together

Sophie GabrielleEastern Reporter

THIS year’s Rottnest Channel Swim will be Naomi Watters’ 10th crossing and her husband Mark’s first.

The Mt Hawthorn couple has been juggling work and two young children as they prepare for their duo event in the popular swim from Cottesloe Beach to Rottnest Island this Saturday.

“Mark has always been my support,” Mrs Watters said.

“We decided we wanted to do it together this year.

“It is the most swimming he’s ever done at once.”

Mark said he has done triathlons but never a channel swim before.

He said dividing time between training and their five-year-old and seven-year-old daughters made the experience “more challenging”.

“Swimming has been a weakness for me,” he said.

Mrs Watters is hopeful the pair will complete the swim in less than six hours.

“Mark trains after work and I train before work,” she said.

“We are busy and we get tired.

“We will definitely have a few drinks when we get there to celebrate.”
