Abi is a great editor, shell say things like is that supposed to be funny? he said.

Parker launched his series of four books Lolas Toy Box at Perth College last month.

The books are suited to students from years 1 to 3 and tell the story of a young girl who discovered an old toy box that takes her to another world where toys come to life.

Parker is the drama director at Hale School.

His first picture book Tree was nominated for a WA Premiers Literacy Award in 2012 and Parachute was shortlisted for the Childrens Book Councils 2014 Picture Book of the Year award.

Parker said it was important to encourage imagination in young children.

It teaches them flexibility and to apply themselves to different challenges, he said.

The imaginary challenges in the book mirror real life challenges.

Its the first novel for many of them, and thats a real honour.
