Last month, Mr McEvoy and his business partners Donny McDemid and Tyson Stolarski launched the iPhone app Cheersy, which lists live local meal deals at nearby venues.

Cheersy has proven popular among Perth businesses and users, with the app ranking in the top three of the food and drink category on the Apple Store recently.

Mr McEvoy said more smartphone users wanted to access specific information through apps rather than an internet search but developing a successful app had its challenges.

‘It’s pretty hard, what we’re doing is entering a new industry,’ Mr McEvoy said.

Mr McDemid said it was pleasing to receive such a positive response to Cheersy after the three founders put in more than 3000 hours of their own time developing, designing and marketing it.

‘Everyone’s talking about it, it’s cool to see that chain reaction happen in front of me,’ Mr McDemid said. ‘If we don’t make anything out of it at least it’s been good for the people of Perth and the hospitality industry.’
