Staff WriterEastern Reporter

THE family of a teenager killed after a drunk driver ploughed into him and his friends as they waited to cross a Perth street are outraged the man is on bail pending his sentence.

Kayden McPhee, 15, died and Blake O’Neill, 16, was seriously injured after they were struck by a BMW as they stood at a traffic island in Midvale on the evening of July 31, 2018.

A 12-year-old boy who was with them was not injured in the crash.

Pre-sentence and psychological reports were ordered ahead of Paulose’s sentencing hearing on July 5.

Outside court, Kayden’s grandmother Rhonda McPhee said the family was disappointed Paulose was free on bail pending his sentence.

“This has changed our life forever. We are hopeful that he will get a long sentence,” she told reporters.

“Our grandson didn’t have a chance at life.”
