East Perth event to celebrate Aboriginal women

THE United Nations Association of Australia’s WA division (UNAAWA) is staging a gala event to celebrate the International Day of the World’s Indigenous People.

On Wednesday August 10, Perth City Farm in East Perth will play host to an event designed to inform people about the role of women in Aboriginal culture.

Celebrated Indigenous women will share stories of their personal journeys before two Aboriginal choirs perform.

Among the speakers will be Rishelle Hume, 2016 West Australian of the Year Aboriginal Award winner, and Dorinda Cox, project officer for the Keeping Kids Safe Project at Women’s Council for Family and Domestic Violence Services WA.

Aboriginal artist JD Pedangke will also speak.
