Maylands family on cloud nine after special delivery at Mt Lawley SJOG Hospital

Giovanni TorreEastern Reporter

MAYLANDS mother Ngaire Kiernan was obviously satisfied with giving birth to her first child at Mt Lawley St John of God Hospital (SJOG); she has returned to do it again eight more times.

Mrs Kiernan and husband Troy recently welcomed baby Gertrude, who along with her eight siblings, was born at Mt Lawley SJOG.

She was pleased with the service she received when she had Philomena 14 years ago.

“The midwives I was really happy with; it was a good experience,” she said.

Since Philomena, Alphonsus, Rosa, Joseph, Felix, Margaret, Linus, Theodore and now week-old Gertrude have joined the clan.

Ms Kiernan said raising nine children was not as daunting as many imagined.

“It is not like the workload of a small family multiplied; everyone is used to waiting a bit,” she said.

The Kiernans are also teaching the children at home.

Ms Kiernan said she had offered the older kids the choice of going to a regular high school.

“We’ve asked them what they want to do… and for now they have chosen to stay home schooled,” she said.
