PERTH MLA Eleni Evangel has hit out at media reports that the State Government would step in to bar WA Police from addressing a local crime forum organised by Labor, while making sure officers attended similar functions held by Liberals.

The comments come ahead of her law and order forum this Thursday, which is open to the public.

Ms Evangel said the event was one of a series of law and order forums held jointly by the minister and the commissioner for police throughout WA.

‘These forums are not limited to Liberal-held electorates,’ she said.

‘You may recall that law and order was a key issue in the lead-up to the 2013 election and forums were committed to at that time.

‘We are delivering on this key election commitment.’

According to Perth Police Station officer in charge Brendan Moore, police would be attending the law and order forum and similar events.

‘We are entirely neutral,’ Senior Sergeant Moore said.

‘In this instance it is a police-organised event and we would open the doors to anyone.’

– There will also be a forum at Perth Soccer Club, 3 Lawley Street, West Perth this Thursday to brief the public on the changes to the police force effective December 1.
