Staff WriterEastern Reporter

THE last phase of the one-hour free parking trial in Perth will start next Monday for “key zones” in West Perth.

Fee payable bays will be converted to 1P no fee payable bays on Hay Street between Outram and Havelock streets for the next 12 months.

City of Perth commissioners endorsed the trial at the June council meeting, in a bid to attract more visitors to the city and was welcomed by locals, including a West Perth community group.

The first phase of the trial was implemented in Claisebrook since July and the second phase was on Hay Street, East Perth this month.

Commissioner Andrew Hammond said the trials aim to improve community activation and safety perceptions in each neighbourhood precinct.

“We are focused on the need to support high street retail precincts within city neighbourhoods and to increase patronage and retail activity in the three areas,” he said.

City of Perth have also confirmed they were working with the retail sector to identify key locations in a three-hour free weekend parking trial in the CBD.
