A FRENCH man and woman have been charged after their alleged disruptive behaviour prompted a plane travelling from Bali to Perth to land in Port Hedland.

Police allege the two passengers, who are known to each other, were intoxicated and became engaged in an argument with each other on the flight last night.

Their behaviour escalated to a point where they were being disorderly and the male passenger had to be restrained by cabin crew and passengers.

The aircraft was diverted to the Port Hedland International Airport.

A 32-year-old man and a 29-year-old woman, who are currently residing in Perth, have both been charged with interfering with crew or aircraft as well as offensive and disorderly behaviour.

They are due to appear in the Perth Magistrates Court on Friday September 14.
