Fundraising event tests students’ skills

A Night at the Cotton Club on June 21 was organised by Elevation Events, a group of students from Joondalups West Coast Institute, to raise funds for Breast Cancer Care WA.

Event co-ordinator Caroline Ellery said the 6pm to 9pm event, which is part of the groups final assignment, had opened their eyes and helped develop their event management skills.

We have grown as individuals as well as learnt to work effectively as a team towards a common goal, Ms Ellery said.

When we were sitting down in the planning stages, we went through all the charities and we came back to Breast Cancer Care WA because so many people, including us, have been affected by it in some way, whether it is through our grandmothers, family or friends.

We would ask everyone to come along and help us raise awareness and support Breast Cancer Care WA all while having fun.

The event will feature canapes, cocktails, a New York-style hot dog stand, dessert buffet, dancers, a DJ playing music of the era with a modern twist, as well as Ruby May as the famous Lady Mummarubes singing some jazzy tunes.

The event also marks the 10th anniversary of the Diploma of Events Course at the West Coast Institute.

For the past 10 years, groups like Elevation Events have raised more than $160,000 for local charities. Visit www.elevationevents. weebly.com, the Elevation Events Facebook page or email elevationevents@ hotmail.com.
