The Mt Hawthorn resident is co-ordinating a morning tea to raise money for the Cherish Foundation, which started earlier this year and will raise money for charities around the world.

The foundation is aiming to raise $15,000 through the morning tea on November 8 for the Bodhi Clinic in Phuket.

Mrs Hughes said the money would support the shelter in providing food and medical support for abandoned and homeless dogs in Phuket.

‘There is a great problem with dogs in Thailand; there are many abandoned dogs and street dogs,’ she said.

‘A lot of people care about animals but they don’t think they can do anything to help them overseas. You can’t save all the dogs but you can help some of them.’

Mrs Hughes said the money would be directed to the clinic, which currently had 100 dogs, in monthly instalments.

The foundation will also hold a high tea fundraising event for Animal Aid Abroad at the Royal Perth Yacht Club on October 19.

WA artist Rebecca Cool hand-painted a carousel pony that will be auctioned at the high tea.
