Guinness World Record hula hoop attempt all in a day’s work for Bree Kirk-Burnnand

Rosanna CandlerEastern Reporter

On Thursday at Central Park in Perth's CBD, Ms Kirk-Burnnand will attempt to break the current Guinness World Record of spinning more than 162 hula-hoops simultaneously for at least three rotations.

"I think Im going to be really nervous " Im going to be petrified," she said. "It's always been a record that I have had in the back of my mind, but only in the last six months did I think I could actually do it."

The Happy Healthy Hoops founder is already no stranger to world records, having already broken the record for most number of hoops spun by a group while touring with 10 fellow hoopers.

For this challenge, Ms Kirk-Burnnand said she was building muscle in the gym to spin at least 20kg of hoops around her body.

"I have blisters on my hands from lifting weights, which are awful," she said. "Even though 20kg doesn't sound like much, the way you have to lift and throw them is quite hard."

After taking a hooping fitness class "on a whim" three years ago, Ms Kirk-Burnnand said it had quickly changed her life.

"It was the most fun I had ever had while keeping fit and I was instantly hooked," she said.

"People are starting to be more open minded about doing things that are fun and also build fitness. It does burn a huge number of calories, but its not that high intensity, it is more accessible."
