PEOPLE will soon be able to enjoy the extensive whiskey range longer at award winning Helvetica Bar.

The venue won Small Bar of the Year in the Critic’s Choice and People’s Choice categories last week at the sixth Small Bar Awards held at Dominion League.

It was the second consecutive win in the People’s Choice category for the venue.

Venue manager Jessica Page said they were in the process of extending trading hours from 1am on Fridays and Saturdays to 2am to meet demand.

“People want to come here as a late night destination,” she said.

“People are leaving home later and staying out later; on Saturdays we would get busy at 7pm now we get busy at 9pm, so there’s that push for it.”

Bar manager Luke Vanhoe said their busiest night was Fridays.

“CBD workers come here after work then we have a bit of a gap, then the after dinner crowd come in,” he said.

“We set ourselves up as a late night bar.”

Ms Page said the venue had expanded on its whiskey range since opening eight years ago.

“The whiskey range has expanded quite a bit, it used to be about 20 types on two shelves now we’ve got six shelves, with over 400 different whiskeys now,” she said.
