Identitywa: new home for disability support agency

Yvonne ArdleyEastern Reporter

DISABILITY agency Identitywa will use a $1.6 million grant to relocate to Northbridge and upgrade its new home.

The organisation will refurbish heritage-listed buildings in the Catholic Archdiocese-owned St Brigid’s School.

Identitywa chief executive Marina Re said Northbridge was the ideal location.

“It’s a fabulous old heritage-listed building, but the school will need a complete new fit-out,” she said. The new venue would allow training of disability carers in the one venue, as opposed to having to seek external locations to train their growing pool of staff.

“We now have over 500 staff members” she said.

“There is lots of pressure for increased staff to do training. This office will be larger and have state-of-the-art training facilities,” Ms Re said.

The current office in Kensington was too limiting in terms of space, but the move would allow room for the organisation to continue growing.

Identitywa have additionally opened a new office in Cockburn and are looking to open a new venue in the North-metro region.

The move from the current head office in Kensington to Northbridge is anticipated for December this year. Lotterywest provided the funding.
