SUFFRAGETTES have inspired Business Women Australia founder Jennifer Rose Bryant this International Women’s Day (IWD).

The Dalkeith resident will today launch a book featuring the stories of 16 West Australian businesswomen, including her daughter and blogger Rayne Embley, called Suffragette at an IWD event at Fraser’s.

“I saw the movie (Suffragette) in October and it made me realise that’s the essence of International Women’s Day, that’s why we do it,” Mrs Rose Bryant said.

“Lots of people theme International Women’s Day around selling products and overdoing the sponsorship stuff.

“But I felt there needed to be an essence of bringing the reality back of why we do it.”

Mrs Embley, who will MC the event, started her fashion, lifestyle and motherhood blog three years ago and turned her passion into a business.

The Dalkeith resident said she initially started the blog because she enjoyed writing but it started taking up a lot of time, so she worked on generating an income from it.

“I’ve created a business around my kids and my family,” she said.

With 40,000 page views a month and more than 20,000 followers on social media, Mrs Embley said the trick to blogging was “staying authentic”.

“I don’t gossip… off limits for me is if my daughter was to read this in 10 years time, would I be proud of what I’ve written,” she said.

Suffragatte is available from www.businesswomenaustralia.com.au.

Money raised from sales will be shared between philanthropic group 100 Women Perth and Rotary eClub of Bali.
