Keep your hands off our horses: woman fined for punching a horse in Northbridge

Staff WriterEastern Reporter

WA Police are warning the public to keep their hands off their horses after an elderly woman punched one in Northbridge in July.

“We know the public loves our horses, but we need to make sure they are kept safe when performing their duties,” a social media post said.

This comes after a 61-year-old woman assaulted Police Horse Mance last month.

She deliberately struck him to the belly while they were on patrol in Northbridge.

The woman pleaded guilty this week to animal cruelty and was fined $2000.

“While assaults like this don’t occur often we regularly have to warn people not to touch the horses as some people seem to believe that slapping a horse is acceptable,” Mounted Section Senior Sergeant Glen Potter said.

Fortunately, PH Mance did not require any medical treatment and was able to continue his patrol duties without incident.
