The group of 59 young people took their seats in the lower house as apart of the YMCA Youth Parliament.

Ms Grulichova, an aspiring journalist, said the experience highlighted the inner workings of politics.

‘We debated seven Bills, including one from the environmental committee, which I was a part of, about developing sustainable urban growth,’ she said. ‘That Bill passed, which I was very happy about because I am passionate about the environment.’

The 19-year-old said the experience had also helped build her self-confidence.

‘I am not a very confident public speaker but by the end of the week, I found the more I spoke, the more confident I got,’ she said.

The mock parliamentary initiative aims to educate young people about democracy and the workings of Parliament.
