LEEDERVILLE’S Babushka bar will open for an extra two hours on Friday and Saturday nights.

The bar on the first floor of the Leederville Hotel will now open until 3am on both nights.

Nearby Vincent Street resident Amanda Hicks made a last ditch effort at the September 19 council meeting to convince councillors to say no, for now, to extended hours.

“I have had ongoing noise complaints about the Blue Flamingo for two years,” she said.

“I think a sensible compromise would be to approve the extended hours for Babushka after the noise issue has been resolved.”

Councillor Matt Buckels was sympathetic but supported the hours.

“I hope the noise issues are resolved as soon as possible; two years is a long time,” he said.

“They should be able to contain the noise (in Babushka) reasonably well.”

City staff advised the application for extended hours had to be considered on its own merits and separate to the Blue Flamingo noise complaints as it was a separate establishment.

A spokeswoman for Leederville Hotel welcomed the decision.

“The hotel appreciates the City’s decision and we see this as a positive outcome for all who enjoy the Leederville precinct,” she said.
