Dipping his bike’s wheel in the ocean marked the start and finish of Peter Stotzer’s ride from Perth to Sydney.

FORMER Mt Lawley Senior High School teacher Peter Stotzer spent 45 days cycling from Trigg Beach to Bondi Beach in Sydney.

In what Mr Stotzer called ‘a rite of passage’, he dipped the front wheel of his bicycle in the water at Trigg Beach and recreated the moment at Bondi Beach.

The Dianella resident taught languages at Mt Lawley SHS for 20 years and embarked on the adventure in September to mark one year since he retired.

‘It was a chance to contemplate life and retirement,’ he said.

‘It gave me a sense of gratitude that I was able to do this at 60.’

Mr Stotzer chose to make the journey alone and unassisted and each day cycled about 100 kilometres.

‘It was important to have that time to myself,’ he said.

Mr Stotzer said it was a special moment when he finally got to Bondi Beach and could dip his bike’s wheel in the ocean.

‘I definitely felt a sense of satisfaction,’ he said.
