VINCENT Council has refused an application for a carwash on a vacant and “derelict” Lord Street site.
The proposed carwash was recommended for approval because it was deemed an acceptable use for the land, according to a council report.
However, councillors felt that the application did not address their concerns and voted to refuse the application.
Mayor John Carey said he shared the concerns of residents who spoke at council’s public statement time on Tuesday.
They included concerns over traffic management and the potential health implications for residents.
Mr Carey said the number of carwash applications Vincent received was becoming “excessive”.
Another carwash application is expected to go before council at its December meeting.
