Man arrested following East Perth crime spree

POLICE have arrested a 28 year-old Parmelia man following a string of incidents in East Perth last night, including the alleged carjacking of a woman in her 60s.

Around 7:50pm, the man entered a car park on Moore Street and allegedly attempted to steal a Honda motorcycle and caused damage to the ignition switch, before allegedly stealing sunglasses from another nearby motorcycle and walking away.

10 minutes later, the man approached a parked Hyundai Getz on the same road and allegedly tried to open the driver’s door and hit the side window with his hand.

The man continued walking along Moore Street and approached a Volkswagon Polo driven by a woman in her 60s which had stopped at boom gates.

He allegedly pulled her out of the car by her hair before driving off.

The man was located hiding in the rear yard of a home on Earles Place in Balga by a police dog around 10.35pm.

He has been charged with two counts of breaching a Violence Restraining Order and single counts of stealing, stealing a motor vehicle, attempting to steal a motor vehicle, aggravated robbery and trespassing.

He is due to appear before the Perth Magistrates Court today.
