A MAN who was allegedly driving on the wrong side of the road while speeding through several Perth suburbs was caught when he became stuck between two vehicles.

Police allege that at about 3pm yesterday, the man was at the Camillo house of a person known to him when he took the keys to a Holden station wagon without permission and left.

It will be further alleged that after 5.45pm the car travelled through East Perth, Perth and Northbridge at times exceeding the speed limit, breaching red traffic lights and driving on the wrong side of the road.

Police said during this time, the vehicle narrowly missed pedestrians and other vehicles.

The Holden was allegedly travelling the wrong way along Hay Street near Milligan Street just after 6pm, when it crashed into three vehicles.

Police said the Holden continued along Hay Street against the flow of traffic and the driver attempted to fit between a CAT bus and another vehicle, just before the intersection at William Street.

The Holden became wedged between the CAT bus and the other vehicle.

The driver got out of the Holden and was apprehended by members of the public a short distance away.

A 31-year-old man from High Wycombe has been charged with no authority to drive (being suspended), being a driver in an incident occasioning property damage and failing to give his name and address, being a driver failing to stop in property damage and stealing a motor vehicle and driving recklessly.

He will appear in the Perth Magistrates Court today.
