Man charged with possessing drugs, firearm after pursuit through Perth CBD

A MAN will face court today on a series of charges after a pursuit through the Perth CBD last night.

It is alleged at around 10.25pm police observed a stolen Renault vehicle at the intersection of Stirling Street and Newcastle Street in Perth.

Police attempted to stop the vehicle but it fled from police.

It is alleged the car continued to evade police through the streets of Perth for a number of minutes, driving recklessly.

The driver fled the car after it stopped at the intersection of Money Street and Newcastle Street due to mechanical issues.

The man was apprehended nearby a short time later, but the vehicle’s passenger is still yet to be identified.

Police searched the vehicle and found a quantity of cannabis, methyl amphetamine, drug paraphernalia, a handgun and ammunition, and a number of items of property.

A 33-year-old man has been charged with stealing a motor vehicle and driving recklessly, aggravated reckless driving, failing to stop, no authority to drive, two counts of possessing a prohibited drug, possessing drug paraphernalia, possessing an unlicensed fire arm, possessing unlicensed ammunition and breach of bail.

He will face Perth Magistrates Court today.
