Man dies after being tasered by police in East Perth

A 35-year-old man has died after being tasered by police during an incident in East Perth today.

A statement from WA Police said officers were called to a robbery incident on Lord Street at 11.35am when they came across a man who required urgent medical assistance.

“As police assisted the man he became aggressive and a struggle ensued, with a police officer being injured. A taser was deployed,” the statement read.

“As the officers continued their attempt to restrain the man he became unresponsive.

“The officers provided emergency first aid until St John Ambulance arrived.”

The ambulance took the man to hospital, but he died.

Detectives from the Major Crime Squad and the Internal Affairs Unit are investigating.
